workshops for writers of nonfiction

As part of our writing and editing services we also offer workshops for writers of nonfiction in a variety of nonfiction writing genres. For example:

  • Family history writing
  • Life story and memoir writing
  • Nostalgia writing
  • Scrapbook journalling
  • Local and social history writing
  • Travel writing
  • Writing the stories behind photos

If your area of interest is not listed above then do let us know. We are happy to consider any type of nonfiction writing.

Our family history writing workshops are aimed at people who have often spent many years researching their family history but have given little or no thought as to how they are going to present it to their family, friends or a wider audience. Because most people are daunted by the prospect of writing their story from the beginning to the end (particularly if their research covers hundreds of years) our workshop focuses on starting small by picking out some of the stories behind their research.

We adopt the same piece-by-piece approach for all of our workshops because we believe that new and inexperienced writers are much more likely to succeed if they write in bite-sized pieces. These bite-sized pieces/stories can either stand alone or be used as the building blocks for a full-length book.

Although each workshop/course is tailored to the individual needs of the group, we can cover all aspects of writing, editing, printing, publishing and production including:

  • organising research and ideas
  • writing in bite-sized pieces
  • techniques and tips about story telling
  • creating captivating titles and opening paragraphs
  • starting to write a first draft
  • editing
  • formatting
  • printing and publishing
